Getting started, account & privacy

Head to the sign-up page and pick whichever account fits you — a personal account for your own vehicles, or a business account if you operate as a dealer, fleet, or motor trader. You'll be up and running in under a minute.

A personal account is for drivers who want to keep their own service history organised and shareable. A business account is for dealers, fleets, and motor traders — it supports multiple team members, larger vehicle inventories, higher daily search limits, and access to our AI Connections feature (Claude, ChatGPT via MCP).

You can switch between plan tiers at any time.

Compare plans

You can request account deletion from your Account settings. Once you confirm:

  • Your account moves into a 30-day grace period. You can recover it during this time by signing back in.
  • After 30 days, your account, profile, vehicles, photos, and uploaded documents are irreversibly hard-deleted.
  • Any Secure Documents you've uploaded are deleted immediately on account deletion — there is no 30-day grace for those.
  • We retain billing records for 6 years to meet UK HMRC requirements, but with no identifying personal information beyond what's legally required.

Read our Privacy Policy

We take privacy seriously. A few things worth knowing:

  • All your data is stored in the UK (AWS London region) and encrypted in transit and at rest.
  • Documents you upload are automatically processed by our PII blurring pipeline: we use AI to detect personal information — names, addresses, contact details — and blur it before the document appears in any public share link.
  • Secure Documents (private storage for V5C, finance agreements, etc.) are visible only to you, never appear in share reports, and are never read by our pipelines.
  • We use only strictly necessary cookies — no analytics, no tracking pixels, no third-party cookies.

AutoServiceHistory is for users aged 18 or over. If you're under 18 and want to keep records of a vehicle, please ask a parent or guardian to create the account on your behalf.

From the sign-in page, click Forgot password? We'll email you a reset link. The link expires after a short time for security; just request another if needed.

Subscriptions, credits & billing

The Free plan is your trial — there's no separate trial period. You can add vehicles, view their MOT and DVLA history, and try out our AI features with a monthly allowance of credits. When you need more, you can upgrade at any time.

View plans

Each credit type powers a different feature:

  • DOC credits are used for AI document review — OCR'ing your uploaded paperwork and extracting service information.
  • Chat credits are used for AI chat conversations — asking questions about your vehicle, getting service recommendations, etc.
  • MCP credits are used when external AI tools (like Claude or ChatGPT) read data from your account via the AI Connections feature. Each request is one credit.

Your plan grants you a monthly allowance of each. They reset every month on your billing date.

When you sign up, we'll give you a one-off batch of welcome credits as a head start. These work like any other credits but they expire 60 days after they're granted, so make sure to use them before then. Welcome credits are spent before your monthly allowance.

Monthly credits reset on the same date each calendar month. You can see the next reset date in your account header — the icon next to Credits & limits opens a panel with full details.

Unused monthly credits don't roll over.

Check my credits

You can cancel any time from your Account settings. Your cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you keep paid features until then. We don't charge an early-cancellation fee.

You can resume your subscription before the period ends if you change your mind.

Manage subscription

Under UK consumer law, personal-account users have a 14-day cooling-off period from the date of purchase. If you waive this right by starting to use paid features straight away (e.g. by using credits), you forfeit the cooling-off right — that's the standard rule for digital services in the UK.

Business accounts have no refund right beyond statutory minimums.

Top-up credit packs are non-refundable beyond statutory rights. Reach out if you have a specific issue and we'll do our best to help.

Read our Terms

No. Purchased top-up credits never expire — they stay in your account until you use them. The only credits that expire are welcome credits (60 days after they're granted) and your monthly plan allowance (resets each month).

Buy a top-up

On annual plans, you pay 12 months up-front and get a discount versus monthly. Your monthly credit allowance still resets every calendar month — annual billing is about how you pay, not how often you get credits.

You can switch between monthly and annual at any time from the Stripe Customer Portal.

Vehicles, MOT data, documents & OCR

From your Dashboard, enter the UK registration number and we'll look up the vehicle automatically — make, model, fuel type, tax status, and MOT history come back in seconds, courtesy of the DVLA and the MOT History API.

Once added, you can upload photos, paperwork, and service records to build a full digital history.

Go to Dashboard

MOT and DVLA data comes directly from UK government APIs — the same sources insurers and dealers use. We refresh it on every lookup so it's as current as the government records.

That said, the records aren't perfect:

  • Very old vehicles (pre-2005) may have incomplete MOT history — the government only digitised tests from then.
  • Some recently-issued plates take a few days to appear.
  • Personal-import or non-UK vehicles won't have records.

If you're making a contractual decision (e.g. buying a vehicle), please verify directly with the DVLA.

You can upload any service-history-related paperwork:

  • Service invoices and receipts
  • MOT certificates
  • Repair quotes and invoices
  • Tyre, brake, and parts replacement records
  • Photos of work done

Supported formats: JPG, PNG, PDF. Files up to 20 MB.

When you upload a document, our pipeline:

  1. Reads the text from your image or PDF using OCR (we use Google Gemini and AWS Textract).
  2. Extracts structured service info — date, mileage, items, totals — so you don't have to type them in.
  3. Detects personal information in the document.
  4. Generates a blurred version for safe public sharing (see next question).

This typically takes 10-30 seconds per document. You'll see the status update in real time.

Every document you upload is automatically run through our PII blurring pipeline before it can appear in any public share link:

  • AI detects regions of the document containing names, addresses, contact details, and other personal information.
  • Those regions are blurred out — permanently, on the version that's shared publicly.
  • Your original is encrypted at rest. Only the blurred copy is ever shown to anyone you share with.

This means a buyer of your vehicle can see your full service history without ever seeing your home address or contact details — a real upgrade on traditional private sales where physical paperwork hands over PII.

Two distinct storage tracks for two distinct use cases:

  • Documents (Photos & Paperwork) are for your service history — invoices, MOT certificates, repair records. They go through OCR + PII blurring, and you can include them in public share links if you choose.
  • Secure Documents (paid plans only) are for your eyes only. V5C, finance agreements, tax records — anything that's never meant to be shared. They're encrypted at rest, never appear in share reports, never read by our pipelines, and immediately hard-deleted when you delete your account, sell the vehicle, or delete the vehicle.

They're deleted immediately and irreversibly. No 30-day grace period, no soft delete. The same applies if you transfer the vehicle to another user, disassociate it from your account, or delete your account entirely.

This is a deliberate design choice — Secure Documents are the most sensitive things you'd store with us, so we apply the strictest deletion policy.

Sharing, transfers, AI Connections & B2B

From any vehicle's page, you can generate a public share link. Anyone with the link can view that vehicle's service history — MOT, DVLA records, photos, paperwork (with PII automatically blurred). You can revoke the link at any time.

Share links never include your Secure Documents.

Yes. Under UK GDPR Article 6, you have a lawful basis to share information about your vehicle (including service history) when:

  • You're performing or preparing for a sale contract (Article 6(1)(b)), or
  • It's in your legitimate interest to facilitate a private sale (Article 6(1)(f)).

By creating a share link, you confirm one of these bases applies. We go beyond the legal minimum by automatically blurring personal information from documents — something a traditional private sale (handing over physical invoices) doesn't offer.

Full Terms

Only the legal owner of the vehicle — or someone with the legal owner's express permission — should upload documents to AutoServiceHistory. By uploading, you confirm one of those applies. See our Terms for the full warranty.

Read our Terms

From the vehicle's page, choose Transfer. Enter the new owner's email address — if they're already an AutoServiceHistory user, the vehicle moves to their account directly. If not, they'll get an email invitation to claim the vehicle by signing up.

Transferring a vehicle is always free. Your Secure Documents for that vehicle are immediately deleted (they don't transfer to the new owner — they were yours alone).

Once you've connected, Claude or ChatGPT can read your vehicle data with your permission — answering questions like:

  • "When's my next service due?"
  • "Compare the MOT failure history of the cars in my fleet."
  • "Draft a summary of this vehicle's service history for a buyer."

You stay in control: you authorise the connection via OAuth, you can revoke it at any time, and each request costs one MCP credit from your monthly allowance.

Set up AI Connections

AI Connections uses the Model Context Protocol — an open standard that lets AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT make structured calls to your data. From inside the AI app, you authorise AutoServiceHistory via OAuth, and from then on the AI can use specific, read-only tools we've defined (list vehicles, get vehicle details, check account usage, etc.).

Nothing more, nothing less. You can see every call in your audit log.

From your AI Connections tab in Account settings, find the connection you want to revoke and click Disconnect. The connection stops working immediately — any pending requests fail. You can reconnect later if you change your mind.

Manage AI Connections

Each B2B plan tier includes a number of seats. Each team member gets their own login and personal credits — they share the organisation's vehicle inventory and credit allowance. You can have Admin, Manager, and Viewer roles.

  • Admin: full access, including billing and team management.
  • Manager: can manage vehicles and members.
  • Viewer: read-only access to vehicles.

From the Members tab in Account settings, click Invite member. Enter their first and last name, their email prefix (we add your business domain automatically), and a role. They'll get an email with a sign-up link.

The invitation uses one of your team seats only when the invitee accepts.

Invite members

Yes — there are two ways:

  • Upgrade your plan if you need more inventory long-term.
  • Buy an inventory pack for a permanent, one-off increase without changing your plan.
